Organic Farming
Gaye lives on a family-run organic farm. Medicinal and culinary herb production is the main enterprise on the farm but Gaye also manages a traditional single-suckler Red Devon beef herd, a stable of horses and a fluctuating number of Indian Runner ducks. The farm is certified organic by the government-approved accreditation body,The Soil Association.
Organic Beef
Organic Beef is available both fresh and frozen from the farm, where animal welfare is a top priority. The farm prides itself on having very happy cows that come to call and fully enjoy their life.
The animals are conceived, born and raised on the farm. A natural weaning system is used – all young stock staying with their mothers for the duration of their life. The herd is fed on organic grass or hay made on the farm, with no additional concentrated feed.
Clean grazing, homoeopathy and herbs are used to maintain herd health.
On a whole-herd or individual basis we resort to veterinary assistance, antibiotics or systemic wormers very rarely and only when all organic alternatives have been explored.
The cattle are slaughtered at two and a half years old (to comply with Ministry Regulation), hung for three and a half weeks and butchered at Stillman’s in Taunton, a fully organically certified abattoir and butcher who, in line with organic standards, treats animals with care and respect. The meat is full of flavour and we hope you enjoy it!
Please email Gaye for a beef price list.
